Empowering swim schools to support neurodiversity in children effectively.

Jenna Royden

Jenna’s journey began in the pool, where her years as a competitive state-level swimmer and swim instructor sparked a deep interest in how children learn, communicate, and connect. Over seven years of teaching, she unearthed a strong interest working with children with different needs and always found herself gravitating towards the students that didn't fit into conventional classes. She became a highly requested instructor, despite facing daily challenges trying to engage students without sufficient knowledge, relying solely on intuition and trial and error.

Driven to support children in a more meaningful and collaborative way, she sought out further education and started on the path to become a speech pathologist. While studying, she worked as an ABA therapist, supporting autistic students and their families, which gave her valuable insight into behavioural approaches, it also deepened her awareness of the need for more holistic, child-led, and affirming practices.

Jenna has been a paediatric speech pathologist for the past seven years, focusing on early intervention and neurodiversity-affirming practice. Her work is grounded in the belief that every child deserves to be understood, respected, and supported in ways that honour their unique way of experiencing the world.

Jenna now works closely with neurodivergent children, their families, and educators to empower support networks through practical strategies, coaching, and advocacy. Her diverse background continues to shape her neurodiversity-affirming approach, with a strong emphasis on connection, inclusion, and celebrating the strengths each child brings.
